Colorize Black and White Photo Online
AI adds natural colors to your black and white photo. Processing runs locally on our own hardware, your photos never go to the cloud.
When AI colorization helps
- Old family photos from the archive
- Black and white portraits you want to bring to life
- Historical shots and reproductions
- Film scans that have faded to monochrome
- Themed sets that need a "vintage with color" look
How it works
The AI is trained on millions of "black and white, color" pairs and predicts natural tones: skin, sky, foliage, fabrics, city scenes. Colors are restored believably, but this is not the real history of the frame, it is a reconstruction. So for archive shots it is important to understand: the resulting color is an interpretation, not an exact copy of how it was.
How to use it
- Drag a black and white photo into the upload area
- Click Colorize
- In 4-10 seconds get a color JPG
- If you do not like the result, try retouching the source (raise contrast, remove dust) and re-upload
FAQ
What if the photo is already in color?
The AI reads only the luminance channel. So if you upload a color photo, the colors are recalculated from scratch and may differ from the original. This is handy when you want to "reset" the odd cast of an old color scan.
Will faces drift into the wrong colors?
Skin, hair and clothing are usually colored correctly. On large groups the AI works carefully. If a face is very small or heavily shadowed, the skin color may come out neutral.
Limits?
10 photos per minute, 60 per day per IP. Up to 25 MB on input, up to 3000 pixels on the long side.
Can I tweak the colors by hand?
Of course. The AI gives a starting base. Then open it in Photoshop or another editor and adjust the tones with Hue/Saturation or Selective Color on layers.
What if the AI chose the "wrong" colors?
It happens: the model guesses the most likely color but can be wrong on clothing, background or props. For an important archive shot it is better to order manual colorization from a pro, so the colors are picked with historical detail in mind.

A family archive with historical value that needs careful manual colorization true to the era? Leave a request, and we will colorize it by hand, mindful of the clothing, background and period.
Colorize or colourise: spelling, and what the model can actually infer
Both spellings mean the same thing. Colorize is American, colourise and colour are British. Searches for either land on the same task: turning a black and white photograph into a colour one.
The model works best on subjects it can recognise. Skin, sky, foliage, wood, brick, ordinary clothing and street scenes come out close to reality because there are plenty of examples to learn from. Anything that cannot be inferred from shape is a guess: the colour of a dress, the paint on a car, a flag or a uniform will look plausible without necessarily being correct.
For family archives that is usually fine. For a historical document where colour carries meaning, check the result against written sources rather than trusting it.
Washed out and overexposed areas colourise worst, because there is little brightness information left to work with. Restore contrast first, then colour.
