      How it works

      The AI is trained on millions of "black and white, color" pairs and predicts natural tones: skin, sky, foliage, fabrics, city scenes. Colors are restored believably, but this is not the real history of the frame, it is a reconstruction. So for archive shots it is important to understand: the resulting color is an interpretation, not an exact copy of how it was.

      What if the photo is already in color?

      The AI reads only the luminance channel. So if you upload a color photo, the colors are recalculated from scratch and may differ from the original. This is handy when you want to "reset" the odd cast of an old color scan.

      Will faces drift into the wrong colors?

      Skin, hair and clothing are usually colored correctly. On large groups the AI works carefully. If a face is very small or heavily shadowed, the skin color may come out neutral.

      Limits?

      10 photos per minute, 60 per day per IP. Up to 25 MB on input, up to 3000 pixels on the long side.

      Can I tweak the colors by hand?

      Of course. The AI gives a starting base. Then open it in Photoshop or another editor and adjust the tones with Hue/Saturation or Selective Color on layers.

      What if the AI chose the "wrong" colors?

      It happens: the model guesses the most likely color but can be wrong on clothing, background or props. For an important archive shot it is better to order manual colorization from a pro, so the colors are picked with historical detail in mind.
