How to Remove a White Background from an Image, Logo or Signature and Get a Transparent PNG

Why an image has a white background and what a transparent PNG is

To remove a white background from an image you need to do two things: separate the artwork from the background and save the result in a format that can store transparency, which usually means PNG. The separation can be done automatically by a neural network or by hand in an image editor. Saving “without a background” as a JPG, however, is impossible: that format knows nothing about transparency. Below we look at where the white rectangle around a logo or signature comes from, how to get rid of it and how to make sure the transparency you ended up with is real.

Why does my image have a white background when it “shouldn't”?

Because a raster image always has a background: it is made of the same kind of dots as the artwork itself. An image file is a rectangular grid of pixels, and every pixel must have a color. A logo on a company website looks as if it is “floating in the air” only because its background matches the color of the page, or because the file also stores a degree of transparency for every dot.

When you grab such a logo with a screenshot, copy it out of a document or receive it by email as a JPG, the transparency is lost and the empty areas are filled with white. On a white sheet you will not notice. But as soon as you place the picture on a colored website header, on a photo or on a letterhead with a tinted background, a white rectangle appears around it.

Why a JPG can't have a transparent background

The JPG format stores only a color for each dot, and there is no room in it for transparency. That is why any program that saves to JPG fills the transparent areas with some color, most often white, sometimes black. It is not a fault of the website or the editor, it is a property of the format.

This gives a simple rule: if you need artwork with no background, the final file must be a PNG, a WebP or a vector file. Renaming the extension from .jpg to .png is useless: the background will not go away, only the file name will change.

PNG vs JPG: what is the difference when you need a transparent background?

A PNG stores a fourth value for every dot, the alpha channel: how opaque that dot is. Thanks to this the edge of the artwork can be smooth: the dots on the border are semi-transparent, and the logo sits just as neatly on a light backdrop as on a dark one.

There is a second difference too. PNG compresses the image without loss, so flat fills and thin lines stay crisp. JPG compresses with loss and leaves grayish “dirt” around high-contrast edges. On a white background it is invisible, but once the background is removed it shows up as a halo, so if you have a choice it is better not to take the logo from a JPG in the first place.

Removing a white background from a PNG: why is it there at all?

Because a PNG is merely able to store transparency, it is not obliged to contain any. If a picture with white in it was saved as a PNG, the white dots in it stayed white and opaque. The .png extension says nothing about whether the file has any transparent areas.

So “remove the white background from a PNG” is exactly the same task as for a JPG: the background has to be separated from the artwork. The only difference is that a PNG source usually has cleaner edges, and the result comes out neater.

I downloaded a “PNG with no background” and got a checkerboard or a white background

The gray and white checkerboard is the way editors and websites show transparency on screen. A truly transparent file has no squares in it: the program draws them underneath the picture. If the squares are visible wherever you paste the file, they are painted into the picture itself. Most often this happens when you saved not the original from the search results but the small preview thumbnail, or took a screenshot.

The opposite case: the file was transparent but turned white. This happens when the picture is copied through the clipboard into a program that does not support transparency, sent through a messenger that recompresses images to JPG, or opened and saved again in a basic viewer. The safest way to pass such a file on is as a document or an attachment, with no compression.

How to check that the transparency is real

The quickest way is to put the picture on a colored backdrop. Anything will do:

  • insert the file into a presentation slide with a dark or bright background;
  • insert it into a text document on top of a paragraph or a colored shape;
  • open it in an image editor and put a filled layer underneath.

If you can see the color of the backdrop around the artwork, the transparency is real. If a white rectangle or the squares are still there, the background in the file is opaque. A dark backdrop also shows the quality of the edge right away: a light fringe, islands of background missed inside the letters, thin lines that have been “eaten”.

Removing a white background from a photo vs a drawing: what is the difference?

The difference lies in what counts as the background. In a drawing, a logo or a scan the background is an even fill of a single color, and it can be separated simply by color. In a photograph a “white background” is almost never uniform: it is a wall or a sheet of paper with shadows, a gradient from the light and camera noise. Removed by color, such a background comes off with holes and blotches.

That is why a neural network that looks for the object itself suits a photo of a product or a person on white, while selection by color is often enough for flat graphics. A signature shot on a phone sits in between: in meaning it is a drawing, but in the quality of its background it is a photograph. Hence the advice that will come up again below: the more even and the whiter the paper in the shot, the easier any kind of processing becomes.

What to do if the source image is small and blurry

Look for a better source first, and only then remove the background. A picture from a messenger, a reduced copy from search results and a screenshot contain few dots, and the edge of the artwork in them is blurred. After the background is removed, that edge is exactly what ends up on show.

Where a larger version usually turns up: in the original email with the attachment, in the press section of the company website, in an old layout file or with the person who made the logo. Spending five minutes on the search pays off better than spending half an hour fixing the fringe on a picture two hundred pixels wide. A really tiny picture will not be accepted by the tool anyway: the sides must be at least 100 pixels.

Removing a white background online: will the output be a PNG?

An online tool does the same job as a manual cutout: it finds the border of the artwork and turns everything else into transparent dots. The output is a PNG with no background and the same size in pixels as before; only a picture longer than 4096 pixels on its larger side is reduced to that size. We explained in more detail how a neural network separates an object in ordinary photographs in our article on how to remove the background from a photo online.

There is one difference that is important to understand. The neural network does not look for “the color white”, it looks for the main object in the frame. For a photo of a product or a person that is an advantage: a white shirt against a white wall will not disappear. For a logo and a signature it means the result depends on how confidently the artwork reads as one solid object. The next two sections are about exactly that.

And a word right away about what you will see on screen. The free preview is a copy reduced to 900 pixels with a watermark, and it is not transparent: where the background was removed it has an even light gray fill. It shows clearly what is left of the artwork and where the border runs. The real transparent PNG at full size is a paid clean file, and the colored backdrop check described above can only be done with that file.

How to remove a white or black background from a logo

With a logo the task usually looks like this: you have a picture from a website, from an email or from an old layout, there is a white or black rectangle around the mark, and you need to place it on a colored header, on a photo or in a presentation. Let us go through how to do this online and where the automation gets it wrong.

How to remove a white background from a logo online

Upload the file to the background remover, choose a mode and click “Remove background”. The tool accepts JPG, PNG and WebP files up to 25 MB, with sides from 100 to 8000 pixels, one file at a time. The result comes back as a PNG with a transparent background. No registration is needed.

  1. Take the largest and cleanest source you have: the original file, not a screenshot.
  2. Leave the “Universal” mode on. If the mark has thin lines, try “Fine details”.
  3. Judge the result by the preview: are the letters intact, has the small text survived, are there any holes. The removed background is shown in the preview as a light gray fill.
  4. If you are happy with the result, get the clean file with the “Download without watermark” button and check that PNG on a dark backdrop and on a light one.

If the source is larger than 4096 pixels on its long side, the result will be reduced to that size.

Remove background from photo

AI processing runs locally on our own hardware, no cloud, no subscription. It handles fine structures especially well: chains, hair, lacework, transparent stones. Output is a PNG with a transparent background.

    Processing your photo...
    Tip: a single clearly defined object on a contrasting background cuts out best. Hair, fur and clear glass are harder, where an even background and good sharpness help.

      Remove a logo background online for free: what the free part includes

      The processing itself and the preview are free: 5 processing runs per day from one address, and the count is shared by all the neural network tools on the site. The preview is reduced to 900 pixels on the long side, carries a watermark and has no transparency. The clean PNG at full size is paid. Entering an email address under the result is optional.

      For a logo this means the following. The preview lets you find out for free whether the automation coped: you can see which parts of the mark survived and whether the small text has vanished. White elements inside the mark, however, are hard to tell apart on the light gray fill, so look at a logo with white lettering especially closely in the preview. Once the daily allowance of runs has been used up, the tool refuses further requests until the next day.

      Removing the background behind a logo: which mode to choose

      The widget has four modes, and three of them make sense for a logo. “Universal” is the default and suits dense marks with large shapes. Try “Fine details (chains, lace)” when the mark has strokes, outlined letters or a pattern. “High resolution” is meant for large sources where it matters to keep the small details of the edge. The “Portrait” mode is intended for people, and you do not need it for graphics.

      There is no single right mode for every case: the same logo may come out better in any of them. Each attempt uses up one run from the daily limit, so size up the picture first: is the mark dense or thin, is the file large or small, and start with the mode that fits rather than going through all of them in turn.

      Remove a black background from an image online

      A black background is handled in exactly the same way: the neural network does not care what color the background is, it separates the object from its surroundings. A light logo on a black rectangle, a neon inscription, a white icon on a dark plate are all processed by the same method and in the same modes.

      Difficulties arise in two cases. The first: the artwork has a glow or a soft shadow that fades smoothly into the black. There is no clear border there, and the automation will either cut the glow off or leave a dark halo. The second: a dark mark on a black background, where there is almost no contrast. Here it is better to look for a different source.

      Thin lines and small text in a logo

      Thin strokes, serifs and a small tagline under the mark are the first to suffer: to a neural network a line one or two pixels thick is almost indistinguishable from noise. It may turn semi-transparent, become broken or disappear altogether.

      What helps:

      • a larger source: the thicker the line is in pixels, the more confidently it is detected;
      • the “Fine details” mode, which is designed for chains, lace and similar narrow structures;
      • for a very large source, the “High resolution” mode;
      • if nothing has helped, manual selection by color in an editor, which the last section covers.

      Enlarging a small picture before processing is pointless if the lines in it are already blurred: stretching will not make any new detail appear.

      White elements inside the logo itself

      This is the main catch with a white background. If the mark has white letters, highlights or a white core, they are the same color as the background. Methods that remove “everything white” by color will make them transparent as well: on a colored backdrop you will get a hole where the white lettering used to be.

      A neural network works differently and usually keeps the white inside a solid object. It does, however, make the opposite mistake: it may leave white the enclosed gaps that ought to become transparent, such as the inside of the letters “O” and “P” or the spaces between separate elements of the mark. And the other way round, if a logo consists of several parts set far apart, some of them may be taken for background.

      So always check the finished file on a colored backdrop, and decide in advance what in your logo is white “by design” and what should be empty.

      A semi-transparent fringe around the edges: where it comes from and what to do about it

      A light fringe appears because the edge of raster artwork is not sharp. Between the color of the mark and the white background there is a strip of in-between dots: they are blended with white. After the background is removed that strip stays, and on a dark backdrop it looks like a light halo. For a black background everything is mirrored: the halo will be dark and will show up on a light backdrop.

      The fringe is more noticeable the smaller the picture is and the more heavily it was compressed as a JPG. You can fight it like this: take a larger source, use the logo on a backdrop close to the original background (after a white background the mark looks best on something light), or refine the edge in an editor by contracting the selection slightly. Automation cannot fully remove a halo from a small compressed picture, and it would be dishonest to promise otherwise.

      What size to save a logo in for a website, a header and a layout

      Save it at the size the picture will be displayed at, with a margin of roughly double for high-density screens. If the logo in a website header takes up 200 pixels in width, a file about 400 wide will look sharp on both a phone and a laptop. For the exact sizes of a community header or a channel cover, check the help pages of the platform itself: they differ everywhere and they change.

      A few practical notes:

      • a raster logo cannot be enlarged without losing sharpness, so keep the largest version and scale down copies of it;
      • for a website a transparent PNG can be converted to WebP, which also stores transparency and weighs less: the format converter does this;
      • do not convert it to JPG: the background will come back;
      • for print, a small picture from a website is almost never enough.

      When it is better to ask the designer for a vector source

      Always, when the logo is yours and a source file exists at all. A vector file (SVG, AI, EPS, a PDF with outlines) describes the mark with lines rather than dots: it has no background, it scales to any size, and in a minute it gives you a PNG of the width you need with a perfect edge.

      Removing the background from a raster picture does not turn it into a vector. You get the same raster, only with transparency, and with all of its size limitations. For an avatar, a presentation or an email signature that is enough. For a shop sign, packaging, embroidery or large-format print you need a vector, and it is easier to find or commission one once than to rescue the picture from the website header every time.

      The same goes for the cases where the automation failed: a light mark on white, very low resolution, heavy compression. Here there is only one honest answer: you need a better source.

      How to remove the background from a signature and a stamp to insert into a document

      For a program, a signature on a white sheet is simpler than a logo: dark strokes on light paper. But the demands on it are stricter, because it will be inserted into a document, where any gray shadow or clipped flourish catches the eye at once. Half of the success here depends on how the signature is photographed.

      How to photograph a signature on a white sheet of paper

      You need a clean white sheet with no ruling, a dark pen and even light. The fewer shadows there are in the shot and the more contrast the strokes have, the cleaner the cut-out signature will be.

      • Write with a black or dark blue pen that gives a solid line: a gel pen, a fineliner, a thin marker. A pale ballpoint gives a broken stroke.
      • Sign larger than you normally do, it is easy to scale down later.
      • Put the sheet on a flat surface by a window, in diffused daylight. Do not turn on the flash.
      • Hold the phone parallel to the sheet and make sure no shadow from your hand or the phone falls on the signature.
      • The signature should fill most of the frame without touching the edges.
      • If the sheet is thin, put another white one under it so the table does not show through.

      If you have a scanner, use it: it gives an even background with no shadows and no perspective. The document scanning mode on a phone will do as well, as long as you save the result as an image.

      Remove the background from a signature photo online

      First crop the shot so that the frame holds the signature with small margins, then upload it to the background remover. JPG, PNG and WebP are accepted, so convert an iPhone shot in HEIC format to JPG first. The side of the picture after cropping must be at least 100 pixels, and preferably much more.

      Start with the “Universal” mode, and for a signature with a thin flourish try “Fine details”. To be honest about the limits: the neural network is trained to pick out objects, and a signature is a set of thin lines, so the result depends on the shot more than it does with an ordinary photograph. The pale tails of a flourish may vanish, and closed loops may stay white inside. If that happens, reshoot the signature with more contrast or remove the white background by color in an editor, as described below.

      Removing the background from a signature and a stamp

      A stamp impression is processed the same way as a signature, but it is fussier. Stamp ink goes on unevenly, the small text around the rim is made of thin pale strokes, and blue or violet often comes out lighter in a photo than it is on paper. The automation may take the pale areas for background.

      What improves the odds:

      • a fresh, clearly printed impression on white paper;
      • scanning instead of photographing;
      • a signature and a stamp shot and processed separately: two simple objects are separated better than one complex object with overlaps;
      • a close shot, so that the letters around the rim can be made out.

      Remove the background from a stamp online

      The background of a stamp is removed with the same tool and in the same modes as that of a signature: there is no separate button for stamps. Crop the scan so that the impression fills almost the whole frame, start with the “Universal” mode, and if the small text around the rim has vanished, repeat in the “Fine details (chains, lace)” mode.

      A round stamp has a quirk of its own: there is a lot of empty white paper inside the ring. The neural network may leave that middle opaque, taking the whole circle for a single object. It is hard to spot in the preview, because both the paper and the removed background are light there. If the middle has stayed white in the finished file, selection by color in an editor is more reliable: it removes everything white, including the gaps between the letters.

      Is an image of a signature legally binding?

      A picture of a signature or a stamp is just an image, not an electronic signature. An electronic signature in the legal sense is a separate mechanism with rules of its own, and a PNG pasted into a document does not replace it. Whether a document with a pasted image of a signature will be accepted depends on who it is being sent to and why, and on what the parties have agreed. If the document matters, check this with the recipient or with a lawyer beforehand.

      And the obvious but necessary point: work only with your own signature and with the stamp of an organization you are entitled to act for. Putting other people's signatures and stamps into documents is not allowed.

      Removing the background from a signature to insert it into Word

      The finished PNG is inserted into the document like any ordinary picture, after which its text wrapping has to be changed, otherwise it sits in the line like a big letter and pushes the text apart. According to Microsoft's help, in Word you select the picture and click the “Layout Options” button that appears next to it; the choices include “In Line with Text”, “Top and Bottom” and “Behind Text”. Once the picture is no longer tied to a line, the signature can be moved freely and placed right on the rule. Word understands PNG transparency, so the line under the flourish will stay visible.

      Word has a “Remove Background” command of its own as well: according to Microsoft's help, it is on the “Picture Format” tab. Whatever the program is about to remove is shaded in magenta; mistakes are corrected with the “Mark Areas to Keep” and “Mark Areas to Remove” buttons, and then you click “Keep Changes”. For a signature on an even white sheet it is sometimes enough, but it handles thin strokes crudely, so a PNG prepared in advance usually looks cleaner.

      Removing the background from a signature for a PDF

      Our background remover does not work with PDF: it accepts images only. If the signature is inside a PDF, save the part of the page you need as a picture, for example with a screenshot at a large zoom, and process that instead.

      There are two ways to put a finished signature into a PDF. The first: in a program for reading or editing PDFs, many of which can add an image or a signature to a page. The second: put the signature into the original text document and only then save it as a PDF. The second way is easier if you have the source document.

      Putting a ready-made signature on a scanned document

      If the document exists only as a scan or a photo of the page, a separate tool is more convenient: sign a document. You upload an image of the page to it (JPG, PNG or WebP), and the signature can be drawn with a finger or a mouse, typed as text in a handwriting font or uploaded as a ready-made PNG with a transparent background. Then click the button that puts the signature on the document, drag the signature to the right place, adjust it with the signature size slider and click the button that downloads the signed document: the page is downloaded as a PNG image in the proportions of an A4 sheet.

      The result is a neat chain: you photograph your signature carefully once, remove the background, save the PNG, and then use it in any documents. The whole process is covered step by step with examples in the article how to sign a document online.

      What size should a signature PNG be?

      With room to spare: several hundred pixels wide or more is better than a tiny picture. A signature takes up little space in a document, but when printed a small file gives jagged, loose strokes. A large PNG scales down without loss, and a small one cannot be enlarged.

      Before saving, crop the empty margins around the signature, leaving a small gap. Then the frame of the picture in the document will match the signature itself, and placing it on a line becomes far more convenient: you will not have to guess where inside a transparent rectangle the flourish actually is.

      The signature came out gray or with a dirty background: what to fix

      It is almost always down to the original shot. A gray background around the signature means the paper in the photo was not white but gray or yellowish because of weak light. Blotches and streaks come from the shadow of a hand, creases in the sheet and ruling that shows through.

      The order of work is this: reshoot in good light, crop closer to the signature, and before removing the background raise the brightness and contrast in any photo editor so that the paper becomes truly white and the ink dark. After that kind of preparation both the neural network and the manual methods work noticeably cleaner.

      How to remove a white background by hand in Photoshop

      The manual method is needed where the automation makes mistakes: thin strokes, white elements inside a mark, a pale stamp. Photoshop has several tools for a white background, from a single click to fine adjustment. The names below are given the way they appear in Adobe's English help pages.

      How to remove a white background in Photoshop with the Magic Wand

      The Magic Wand selects an area of one color with a click, so for an even white background it is the fastest method. The steps are these:

      1. Open the picture and turn the background layer into a regular layer, otherwise a color will appear where the background was removed, not transparency.
      2. Pick the Magic Wand tool and click on the white background.
      3. In the options bar adjust “Tolerance”: the higher it is, the more shades close to white end up in the selection. Next to it are “Anti-alias” and “Sample All Layers”.
      4. Remove the selected area with the Delete key and save the file as a PNG.

      The key setting here is the “Contiguous” checkbox. When it is ticked, only the white area you clicked on is selected, and the white details inside the logo stay where they are. If you clear the checkbox, all areas of that color in the picture are selected at once: the background, the gaps in the letters and the white elements of the mark itself.

      How to cut out a white background in Photoshop with Color Range

      The Color Range command selects a color across the whole image and gives a softer, more controllable edge than the wand. You will find it in the menu “Select” > “Color Range”. In the dialog that opens, click on the white background with the eyedropper and move the “Fuzziness” slider: according to Adobe's help, a low value restricts the color range and a high value widens it. The plus and minus eyedroppers add and exclude colors; to switch to the plus eyedropper temporarily hold down Shift, and for the minus one hold Alt on Windows or Option on a Mac.

      This method is good for a signature and a stamp: there are many strokes, they are thin, and clicking the wand on every single gap would take a long time. You can also go the other way round: pick not the background but the ink color with the eyedropper, and then the signature itself will be selected. The “Invert” option in the same dialog flips the selection to its opposite.

      Keep in mind the peculiarity of selecting by color: everything white inside the artwork will land in the selection too. For a signature that is exactly what you want, for a logo with white lettering it is not.

      The Remove Background quick action in Photoshop

      Current versions of Photoshop have automatic background removal, which is essentially the same idea as the online tools. According to Adobe's help, the route is this: open the Discover panel (the menu “Help” > “Photoshop Help” or the shortcut Ctrl+F on Windows, Cmd+F on a Mac), go to “Browse” > “Quick Actions”, choose “Remove Background” and click “Apply”. The same “Remove Background” button is among the quick actions in the Properties panel of the selected layer, which is shorter.

      Photoshop finds the object by itself and hides everything else. The handy part is that the result stays in the editor and can be corrected straight away. But the automation has the same weak spots here: thin lines, pale strokes and artwork made up of several scattered parts. If the quick action has “eaten” part of the signature, move on to selection by color.

      How to remove a logo background in Photoshop when there is white inside

      Use the Magic Wand with the “Contiguous” checkbox ticked. Click on the outer background: only that will be selected, while the white letters and highlights inside the mark, separated from the background by an outline, will be left untouched.

      Then decide separately what happens to the enclosed gaps. Those that should become transparent (the inside of the letter “O”, the space between elements) are added to the selection: turn on “Add to selection” in the options bar or click while holding down the Shift key. Those that are white by design you leave alone. This is precisely the task where manual work is more accurate than any automation: the program does not know which white of yours is the “real” one, and you do.

      The Multiply blend mode: a signature without cutting anything out

      If the signature has to be placed on a document inside Photoshop itself, there is no need to cut the background out. Put the signature layer above the document layer and choose the “Multiply” blend mode for it. As Adobe describes it, in this mode the value of the base color is multiplied by the value of the blend color, the result is always darker, and multiplying any color by white leaves the color unchanged. In practice this means the white paper around the signature disappears and the dark ink stays.

      The method takes a few seconds and keeps every thin stroke, because nothing is selected and nothing is erased. There are three limitations:

      • the paper in the photo of the signature must be truly white: a gray background will give a gray rectangle, so raise the brightness and contrast first;
      • on a dark backdrop the signature will not be visible, the mode only darkens;
      • this is a property of a layer inside the layout, not a transparent file: you will not get a separate PNG of the signature this way, and for that the background still has to be removed.

      How to remove the background from a signature in Photoshop and get a PNG

      A reliable sequence is this. First boost the contrast of the shot so that the paper becomes pure white. Then use “Color Range” to select the background or the ink and delete the background or hide it with a mask. After that put a temporary layer with a dark fill under the signature and check the edge: is there any light fringe left, are there islands of paper in the loops. Before saving, turn the temporary layer off and save the file as a PNG.

      If the signature looks pale after being cut out, that is a consequence of the semi-transparent edges of the stroke. What helps is a source with more contrast, not removing the background a second time.

      How to save the result without losing transparency

      Save as a PNG, and before saving make sure there is no visible filled layer under the artwork: everything that is visible on the canvas will go into the file. The checkerboard in the editor window stands for transparent areas, and it will not be in the finished file.

      The working file with its layers and masks is worth saving separately, in the editor's own format. A mask, unlike deleting with the Delete key, erases nothing: if it turns out later that the tip of a flourish was cut off or a gap in a letter was lost, you can fix it with a brush without starting over. And then check the finished PNG the same way as any other transparent file: on a dark backdrop and on a light one.

      When manual work is more accurate than automation, and when it is the other way round

      Manual work is more accurate when the background is uniform and the artwork is flat and high in contrast: a signature, a stamp, a line-art logo, a technical drawing, a scanned sketch. Here selection by color gives a predictable result and full control over what stays white.

      Automation wins when the background is uneven or the object is complex: a logo photographed on a shop sign or on packaging, an item on a table, a person. Such a background cannot be selected by color, while a neural network separates the whole object in a single pass. A sensible order of work: try automatic removal first, look at the result on a colored backdrop and take up manual work only if there are obvious mistakes.

      If what lies ahead is cutting out a complex subject with hair, fur or glass, that is a full-scale cutout job with techniques of its own: masks, paths and edge refinement. A separate guide to cutting out photos in Photoshop is devoted to them.

      Frequently asked questions

      Can I save an image with no background as a JPG? No. The JPG format does not store transparency, so on saving the empty areas are filled with a color, usually white. An image with no background needs PNG or WebP, and for a logo a vector file is best of all.

      Why is there a light fringe around my logo after removing the background? Along the edge of the artwork there is a strip of dots blended with the white background. On a dark backdrop it looks like a halo. It is most noticeable on small pictures and after JPG compression. A larger, cleaner source helps, or refining the edge in an editor.

      What files does the background remover accept? JPG, PNG and WebP up to 25 MB, with sides from 100 to 8000 pixels, one file at a time. The HEIC format is not accepted, so such a shot has to be converted to JPG first. The result is delivered as a PNG; a picture longer than 4096 pixels on its larger side is reduced to that size.

      How much does it cost to remove a background online? Processing and the preview are free: 5 processing runs per day from one address, with the count shared by the neural network tools on the site. The preview is reduced to 900 pixels, has a watermark and no transparency: the removed background in it is filled with light gray. The clean transparent PNG at full size is paid. No registration is needed.

      Does removing the background turn a logo into a vector? No. Background removal gives you the same raster artwork, only with transparency. It cannot be enlarged without losing sharpness. For print and large formats you need a vector source from the designer.

      Can I paste an image of my signature into a contract instead of a real signature? Technically yes, but an image of a signature is not an electronic signature. Whether such a document will be accepted depends on the recipient and on what the parties have agreed, so it is worth checking beforehand. You may use only your own signature and the stamp of your own organization.

      Why did part of my signature disappear after removing the background? The neural network picks out objects, and it may take thin pale strokes for background. Reshoot the signature with a dark pen in even light, crop the frame closer to it and try the “Fine details” mode. If that does not help, remove the white background by color in an image editor.

      Can I remove a white background from a video? This tool works with images only: JPG, PNG and WebP. It does not process video, for that you need video editing software.
