Product image size requirements in pixels

There is no single correct size: every marketplace sets its own limits. Here is the short version for each.

    Amazon image requirements

Amazon accepts images from 500 px to 10000 px on the longest side. Zoom on the product page works from 1000 px on the longest side, so a smaller image uploads but cannot be zoomed. On the main image the product should fill 85% of the frame. The Amazon image guide names no aspect ratio.

    eBay picture size requirements

eBay asks for at least 500 px on the longest side and recommends about 1600×1600 px. A picture can weigh up to 12 MB, and a listing holds up to 24 pictures. According to eBay, 1:1 or 16:9 pictures usually look best.

    Etsy listing photo size

Etsy has no hard minimum. It recommends at least 2000×2000 px, and a first photo smaller than 635×635 px is shown lower in search. Files over 1 MB may fail to upload, so compress large photos first. The first photo should be landscape or square.

Image formats for Amazon, eBay and Etsy

JPG is on every list. The differences start after that.

    Which formats each marketplace accepts

Amazon: JPG, TIFF, PNG, GIF. eBay: JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, BMP, WebP, HEIC, AVIF. Etsy: JPG, GIF, PNG, HEIC.

What to do with HEIC photos from an iPhone

An iPhone shoots HEIC by default, and not every marketplace takes it: check the list for yours. If the format is not accepted, convert the file to JPG. The checker reads the format from the file contents, so a renamed file will not fool it.

File size: how many megabytes are allowed

eBay: up to 12 MB per picture. Etsy has no hard limit, but files over 1 MB may not finish uploading. The Amazon image guide we checked names no file size limit, so the checker does not rate file size for Amazon. PNG files and photos straight from the camera run into limits most often. Saving as JPG usually solves it with no visible loss of quality.

    Background and the main image

This is where marketplaces differ the most.

    Which background you need

Amazon: pure white on the main image. eBay: white is recommended, not required. Etsy: any, there are no requirements. Etsy does not support transparent PNG files: transparent areas turn black.

What must not be in the picture

Amazon: added text, prices and discounts, marketplace logos, badges and review stars, props that are not part of the product, mannequins, a cropped product on the main image, the product in its packaging on the main image. eBay: watermarks, borders, added text, added graphics, stock photos for used items.

How much of the frame the product fills

Amazon gives a number: the product should fill 85% of the main image and be fully in the frame. eBay and Etsy give no figure. The checker estimates the share along the longer side of the product.

How many photos to add to a listing

eBay: up to 24. Etsy: up to 20. For Amazon the table has no limit: the page we checked does not name one.

    How to check a photo

    1. Pick a marketplace and, where the rules depend on it, a product category.
    2. Drop up to 20 photos into the box or choose them on your device.
    3. Read the marks for each file: "Passes", "Warning" or "Fails".
    4. Open the tool from the hint, fix the file and check it again.

What is checked exactly, what is estimated and what is not checked

    • Exactly, from the file itself: size in pixels, aspect ratio, format (by contents, not by extension), file size, embedded color profile and transparency.
    • Estimated, from the pixels of a downscaled copy: how light and even the background is along the edges and how much of the frame the product fills. It is a hint, not a verdict: a busy background, a shadow or a white product on white can throw the estimate off.
    • Not checked: text and watermarks on the picture, logos, sharpness, whether the photo matches the product. A marketplace moderator looks at that and has the final say.
    • Photos are not sent anywhere: the check runs in your browser and the file stays on your device.

    Frequently asked questions

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free and needs no signup. Everything is calculated in your browser, and photos are not uploaded to a server.

Where do the requirements come from?

From the official seller help pages of each marketplace. The source link is under each table, checked on 2026-10-10. Rules change, so look at the source before a large upload.

What image size does Amazon require?

From 500 px to 10000 px on the longest side. For zoom you need at least 1000 px on the longest side.

What size should eBay pictures be?

At least 500 px on the longest side, with about 1600×1600 px recommended and up to 12 MB per file.

What size are Etsy listing photos?

Etsy recommends at least 2000×2000 px. A first photo under 635×635 px is shown lower in search.

Does the Amazon main image need a white background?

Yes, the Amazon image guide asks for a pure white background on the main image. The checker looks at the edges of the frame and warns you when the background is not white.

What does the "Warning" mark mean?

The file will be accepted, but it differs from what the marketplace recommends, or the result is an estimate, as with background and margins. "Fails" means a numeric requirement is broken: size, format, file size or a required aspect ratio.

    What if many photos fail?

File size, format and aspect ratio take a couple of minutes to fix with our tools: the link is next to each remark. If it is a whole catalog that needs a new background and retouching, it is faster to hand it to us: we bring every photo in line with the marketplace requirements.
