Blur or hide a face, plate or text in a photo
Faces are found for you; a license plate, address or text you mark with a box. Blur, pixels or a black box, and the photo stays in your browser.
How to hide a face or plate in a photo
- Upload a JPG, PNG or WebP photo. It opens right in your browser and is not sent anywhere.
- Wait a couple of seconds: the faces that were found get covered with ovals. Tap an oval to uncover that face, tap again to cover it.
- Mark a license plate, address, text or a missed face yourself: pick rectangle or oval and drag across the photo.
- Choose a method: blur, pixels or a black box. For blur and pixels, set the strength with the slider.
- Press "Download photo". The file is saved in the same format and with the same pixel size.
What the tool can do
- Automatic face search: every face it finds is covered straight away, and any of them can be uncovered with one tap.
- Manual areas, rectangle or oval. Move, stretch and delete them with a mouse or a finger.
- Three ways to hide: blur, pixelation and a solid black box.
- A strength slider for blur and pixels.
- The result keeps the source format: JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG, WebP stays WebP where the browser can save it.
- The saved file has no EXIF: the date, camera model and GPS position are not carried over.
What you can cover
Faces
Passers-by in the frame, children, party guests, people in a group shot who do not want to be online. The tool finds faces on its own; you only check the result.
License plates
Before posting a car for sale or sharing a photo from a car park. Plates are not found automatically: mark the plate with a rectangle.
Addresses, names, text
A line in a document, the address on an envelope or parcel, a surname in a chat, data on a screen. Text is marked by hand too.
Documents and cards
A passport number, a ticket barcode, a bank card number. For data like this choose the black box: it is the most reliable cover.
Which method to choose
Blur
Looks soft and does not pull attention away from the picture. Good for faces of passers-by and for backgrounds. Light blur leaves features recognisable, so use a higher strength on a face.
Pixels
The familiar mosaic you see on TV. The bigger the squares, the less of the original picture is left.
Black box
A solid fill fully replaces the pixels under the area. It is the only method after which the original image cannot be recovered. Choose it for document numbers, cards and other text.
Questions and answers
Is my photo uploaded to a server?
No. Face search and hiding run in your browser; the face search program is loaded from our site and works on your device. The photo itself is not sent to the server: the site only gets a note that a file was chosen, with its size and type.
Can blurred or pixelated areas be restored?
Light blur and small pixels are partly reversible: a face can be guessed, and short text or a number can sometimes be worked out. Strong blur and big pixels leave far less, but they are no guarantee. Only the black box hides reliably: the original pixels under it are not in the file.
Does the tool find license plates and text on its own?
No. Only faces are found automatically. A license plate, address, text or anything else has to be marked with a box by hand.
Why was a face missed?
The search can miss a face in profile, turned away, very small, or covered by a mask, a hand or dark glasses. Now and then it takes a drawing or a pattern for a face. Always check the photo before downloading: mark a missed face with an oval and delete any extra area.
What format and size is the saved photo?
The source format: JPG, PNG or WebP. If the browser cannot save WebP, the file is saved as PNG. The pixel size stays the same; only photos larger than 16 megapixels are reduced to that limit. JPG is saved at quality 92.
Is EXIF kept in the file?
No. The photo is saved anew and the metadata of the original is not copied into the new file: no date, no camera model, no GPS position.
Can I blur one face and black out another?
No, the method and strength are shared by all areas in the photo. If you need different methods, save the photo with the first one, upload the result again and add the second area.
Is it free? Is there a watermark?
The tool is free and needs no sign-up. No watermark is added, and we do not limit the number of photos or areas.
