Australian passport photo: what you need
The Australian Passport Office asks for two identical photos 35–40 mm wide and 45–50 mm high, with the head 32–36 mm from chin to crown, on a plain white or light grey background, taken less than 6 months ago. The photos must not be retouched, and glasses are not allowed except for medical reasons.
Be aware: the Passport Office says it does not recommend online passport photo services or mobile apps. Use the widget below to check framing and head size before you print, and follow the background and print rules below.

- Print: dye-sublimation (not inkjet) on thick glossy paper of at least 200 gsm.
- Glasses: not allowed unless for a medical reason; poor eyesight is not counted as one.
- Head covering: only for religious reasons, plain, with the face visible from chin to forehead and both edges of the face.
- No retouching: moles, wrinkles and scars stay; an edited background is one of the listed reasons for refusal.

Citizenship application photos
Online citizenship applications take a JPEG from 70 KB to 3.5 MB, preferably 1200×1600 pixels; scans and photos of photos are not accepted. Paper applications use the passport size. The background should be neutral or light grey, the photo under 6 months old and unedited: Home Affairs says not to remove the background, moles, wrinkles, scars or red eyes. Frequently asked questions
Can I print an Australian passport photo at home?
The Passport Office asks for dye-sublimation prints on glossy paper of at least 200 gsm. A home inkjet print does not meet that.
Can I wear glasses?
No, only for a medical reason, and poor eyesight does not count.
